If this isn't obvious by now, I'm a big "Timmy" Magic player. There's nothing quite like applying the beatdown with demons, dragons, Eldrazi, huge spells, or powerful and expensive artifacts. Drawing cards is a good time too. Lots of cards! For everyone!
When I think about a Commander, I look for the theme that I am trying to put forward in the game. For example, on the Onslaught edition of the card for Arcanis the Omnipotent, the flavor text reads, "He has journeyed where none have been before. Now he returns to ensure that none follow." This immediately makes me think of Eldrazi.
There are a lot of situations where Eldrazi are not fun to play against in Commander. That's too bad. House rule: Annihilator always causes one sacrifice. Or, Annihilator causes a tap instead of a sacrifice. Whatever it takes. But bring out the big guns. Plus, Arcanis draws cards. Three of them. :) And, he's a wizard. So, a deck theme with card drawing, wizards, and Eldrazi along with big support artifacts would be good times.
Another Commander I like is Nicol Bolas. He's a big, flying, Dragon god. He's also a great character. Instead of a deck jam-packed with strong spells (Bolas flexing), what about Bolas as the chess player? Ten steps ahead of you. Laying traps. His agents are doing his dirty work, laying the ground work for his appearance, playing spells like Glacial Chasm that say "look elsewhere" to keep your opponents off your back while you gather resources for the final assault.
